Empire State and US flags

This patriotic scene taken looking up from Broadway.

The distinctive mast (now the base of the TV tower) was originally designed as a mooring mast for airships, but after several unsuccessful attempts (not helped by the volatile wind conditions at 1,350 feet), the idea was wisely abandoned.
