On a scorching April afternoon, community activists marked the 30th anniversary of the Brixton riots with a public meeting in Windrush Square, followed by a series of talks in the Tate library.
Paul Reid, the Director of the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton spoke to the crowd after a prayer by the Reverend Canon Ivelaw Bowman.
The event was held outside the new home of the Black Cultural Archives, a national institution dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of people of African descent in the UK.
The heritage centre will feature exhibition space, archive facilities, a library and reading room, plus spaces for seminars, conferences and community use.
