Clapton FC and their passionate Ultras feature in Away Days video

The good folks at Football Beyond Borders have released a short film featuring non-league Clapton FC and their unique supporters, the Clapton Ultras.

Clapton’s fanatical support have been introducing a quiet revolution to lower league football, attracting a passionate following based on the European ultras tradition, and one that reflects their opposition to modern professional football.

United in their opposition to discrimination and far-right politics within football, attendance figures have risen sharply since 2012, with average gates jumping from 43 to 186  for the 2014/5 season.

Clapton’s home attendance of 519 against Stansted on 18 April 2015 proved to be the second ever highest attendance figure for an Essex Senior League match.

Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of common ground between Clapton’s fans and those of my team Dulwich Hamlet, and a large contingent came down to support Hamlet’s ground breaking anti-homophobia friendly match against Stonewall FC in February this year.

Football Without Borders also have strong Hamlet connections, launching their FBBTV venture at Champion Hill in March 2015 and releasing a video feature on the club in April.
