Wye Valley Posters
Great Western Railway promotional posters
![The Wye Valley, by Frank Newbould, GWR 1946.](images/poster.jpg) The Wye Valley, by Frank Newbould, GWR 1946.
This print proved to be popular with the public, and was reprinted a year later.
![Monmouth Troy railway station, 1931, Monmouthshire, Wales](images/poster1.jpg) Tintern Abbey, Freda Lingstrom, GWR 1931.
This is the version sent to America (hence the inaccurate - and annoying! - claim that the Wye Valley was in England).
In 1927, the GWR introduced the innovative 'Land Cruises' aimed at attracting overseas as well as domestic tourism. Much like a luxury package tour, the scheme included first-class travel by rail and road, meals and accommodation and first class tours.
