The curious artwork on the House of Bottles, Coldharbour Lane, Brixton

I’m not entirely sure what I think of this piece of artwork that has appeared outside the esteemed House Of Bottles off-licence on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton.

The piece – by the prolific and rather talented artist Morganico – shows what appears to be a folded, Gollum-like creature sat on a tiny island eating its own hand, with the caption, “By Our Own Hand We Live” underneath.

I’m all for a bit of art on the streets and the colours are great, but I find this hand-eating fella just a tiny bit, well, disturbing.

What do you think?

  1. we gave 3 designs to the off licence owner – and in the spirit of democracy we thawt to offer the final decision to a public vote az to which design became the wall art- the booze buying public there gave an overwhelming favourable vote to this crazzzy critter (that i personally wantid to paint, but thawt no one in their right minds would agree to and have this outside their shop! lol) big respeck to House Of Bottles bo$$man for championing the spirit of strange with the ‘Dream Oracle’ minimural…
