Last weekend, I was in Kent taking pictures of Tenterden town, watching my football team lose again and taking a quick look around the rather wonderful headquarters of the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

Conveniently located a short stroll from the station is the equally wonderful Old Dairy Taproom. Here’s some photos from my short stay:

The line – which originally ran from Headcorn to Robertsbridge – opened in 1900 but failed to return the expected dividends and closed to passengers in January 1954, with goods traffic following in June 1961.

Thanks to the efforts of railway enthusiasts, over 11 miles of the route has reopened from Tenterden to Bodiam, with long term plans to extend to Robertsbridge Junction.

Occupying a a WWII Nissen hut close to the station is the Old Dairy Taproom, a family run business offering a wide range of local craft beers including a selection of their own beers.

The bar is cosy and welcoming and absolutely worth a visit!
