As you’ve probably worked out by now, I’m a big fan of independent coffee houses, and am always interested in checking out new coffee shops around the capital.

Living in Brixton, the bar is set pretty high with the fabulous Federation Coffee serving up sublime cups of gourmet coffee, but I’ve been discovering more great coffee houses recently, including Tapped & Packed in Fitzrovia, Wild and Wood on New Oxford St WC1, and the Counter Cafe in Hackney Wick.

On Saturday, I paid a visit to Store Street Espresso, located a short walk from Tottenham Court Road, the British Museum and several of the universities in the area.

The cafe is a light, bright space to sup coffee, chat to friends, attempt some work or settle down to read a book.

In fact, the long, narrow, white painted space rather reminds me of the much-missed original Photographers Gallery cafe in Leicester Square.

As is the vogue in these places, there was some background music playing, but thankfully the volume was pegged low.

With its high ceiling, white walls and skylight windows, the cafe has loads of natural light and a relaxed vibe that encourages you to stick around and order another coffee.

The coffee was excellent, as were the roasted pepper sandwiches and fresh cakes.

It’s funny how I’ve got so used to posh coffee with all the hoity toity frills. Unless my brew comes with a fancy design on the froth I now feel a tad disappointed!

Attractively laid out on the counter were a good selection of cakes and snacks, and the pricing was pretty reasonable too.
