Then and Now: Electric Lane, looking towards Atlantic Rd
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth

Electric Lane, looking towards Atlantic Road and Brixton Station, Brixton, 1964

Electric Lane and Electric Avenue, looking towards Atlantic Road and Brixton Station.

In the foreground can be seen the stylish facade of Dorsey's 'Fashion Corner', sheltered under a glass and iron canopy that used to run along the length of Electric Avenue.

Rising above the railway bridge in the distance can be seen the distinctive clock tower of the Railway Hotel (Brady's) public house.

Dorsey's 'Fashion Corner' has now been replaced by 'Bling Bling' fashion, while the shop to the left now hosts the excellent Index Bookstore.

The now-vandalised clock tower survives, although the pub has remained empty for several years - a source of some annoyance to many Brixton locals.
